Identity and Legacy: the argument

Organizations contain forms of value that rarely appear on a balance sheet or process map: judgement, reputation, relationships, taste, standards, institutional memory.

Not everything old deserves to be preserved. But not everything inefficient is without value.

Sometimes the slow part of a process is where judgement happens. Sometimes a customer values an interaction precisely because it is not automated. Transformation creates an opportunity to distinguish between what has merely accumulated and what has become part of the organization's value.

Not everything inefficient is without value.
